What is the oxygen saturation percentage?
The percentage of blood oxygen saturation, usually abbreviated as SpO2, refers to the blood oxygen content in blood oxygen. The corresponding equipment is called SpO2 monitor or blood oxygen saturation monitor. Nowadays most blood oxygen saturation monitors like this can also measure pulse. Combined pulse-oximetry monitors are usually called pulse oximetry monitors or pulse oximeters. These blood oxygen monitors work by emitting a small beam of light through the skin and then measuring the reflected light. The most common measurement site is the fingertip. Compared with the arterial blood gas test, the pulse oximetry monitor has another advantage. Blood gas test is a kind of sampling inspection. The results of the test are only valid at the point in time when the blood sample is collected, but the pulse oximeter can continuously measure the oxygen saturation percentage. Most over-the-counter finger clip oximeters support automatic mode. When you put your finger in the clip, the oximeter will automatically turn on, then the results will be displayed for a few seconds, and then it will turn off automatically to save battery power. Most SpO2 monitors are finger clip monitors, so you cannot use your hands or fingers when the monitor is on your fingers. But since the smart watch has added the blood oxygen monitoring function, users can directly monitor blood oxygen through the smart watch. Get rid of the limitations of previous medical devices. And can directly generate data, allowing users to intuitively see their own blood oxygen changes.
Why measure blood oxygen saturation?
Because the oxygen content in our body is very important, the normal arterial blood oxygen saturation is 95-100%. Various disease states (such as heart failure, chronic lung disease, or sleep apnea) may reduce blood oxygen saturation. Generally, anyone with a blood oxygen saturation below 89-90% needs supplemental home oxygen therapy to bring the blood oxygen saturation level back to more than 90%. If the blood oxygen saturation level drops to more than 80% or more than 70%, various serious symptoms will occur, including visual changes, dizziness, changes in mental state, lack of consciousness, difficulty thinking, and other symptoms. Long-term blood oxygen saturation below this value is fatal.
Heart failure, chronic lung disease, or sleep apnea can be monitored by tracking changes in blood oxygen saturation over time, or by measuring other parameters provided by CSMW (such as pulse rate and respiratory rate). These measurements help diagnose new problems and also help detect deterioration before these diseases become serious. It is one thing to use a pulse oximetry monitor to check blood oxygen saturation from time to time, as long as you remember to carry the finger clip monitor with you and remember to wear it; but you have a sense of security, knowing that you don’t need to remove it from your wrist. Any additional device other than your watch can check blood oxygen saturation at any time, and the information can be automatically sent to your private doctor for review, which is another matter. At this time, smart watches can just play the role of information storage.
Now people are paying more and more attention to the health monitoring function of smart watches. These health monitoring functions can serve as a personal doctor. Such as low blood oxygen, high or low heart rate, sleep state, heart and nervous system conditions, and so on. The role of smart watches is no longer limited to time and exercise, and now more attention is paid to health. Now large and small manufacturers, such as Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi, Samsung, Huami, Veepoo and other companies are accelerating their deployment in the smart watch market
In the future, this will be a thriving market.
